My oldest daughter, Tatum, and I had the opportunity this week to review a really cute website called FP Girl. FP Girl is an “online fashion community” geared towards girls ages 5-12 who like to design their own clothes and accessories. Tatum will be 5 in a few months and loves the fashion world. Recently while trying on clothes together she looked at me and said “Mom, you call that fashion?” I did, but clearly she did not. So, this was a great opportunity for her to go in and design her own model, studio, and outfits and to show me what “fashion” actually is.
Our first trip to FPGirl.com was a bit overwhelming as there were so many options of clothes to design. Someone a bit older who could navigate and read on their own would have been fine as they would have been in control to go where they wanted and read and see all their options. The site is fairly easy to navigate, but for children under 8 or 9 you might need to check it out first to help give them a little direction. Going back in a second time I was able to control things a bit more so there wouldn’t be as many options for Tatum. I simply had her choose a dress as opposed to choosing between 9 dresses, 11 shirts, 11 bottoms, etc. Same for the embellishments and design options to put on the dresses. She loved creating a model and putting the clothes she designed on the model, but she LOVED designing a dress for her baby doll. What mother doesn’t love shopping for their baby?!
In about 3 weeks we should be getting the dress she designed for herself as well as the one she designed for her baby. I can’t wait to share the results with everyone and I’m 100% sure there will be a little giveaway included with the results posts, maybe even 2!! The true test will be if her Fashion Playtes dress is a better fit and of better quality than the one she sewed for herself back in December!!
