I recently had the opportunity to volunteer my help at a high school senior recognition night for the graduating seniors in my church congregation. Following a special program in the chapel, we held a simple dessert reception where seniors and invited guests could mingle and share congratulations. In the cultural hall, seniors were invited to set up table displays showcasing some of their achievements, college plans, senior projects, special talents & hobbies.  A slideshow ran while attendees enjoyed refreshments.

Graduation

We wanted to dress up the church gym and honor seniors, but only had a small budget & short time to set up, with church meetings in the building having concluded only a short time before the recognition was to start.  Anders Ruff’s printables were a life saver!

**TIP: One of my favorite ways to create a quick & simple backdrop that goes up in a hurry is to use curtain panels on a PVC backdrop stand (tutorial here).  (I purchased these panels from IKEA for less than $10 a pair and have reused them many, many times.) I  had the panels already on the top PVC rod and laid them out carefully in my car so they were ready to go!  I added a beautiful  focal piece to the backdrop by spray painting an old frame with leftover spray paint and printing a 16″ x 20″ poster designed by Anders Ruff at Office Depot on their blueprint machine (only $6).  I attached some fishing line to the back and hung it up with push pins!  Gold and silver foil stars from The Dollar Tree (came in a pack of about 5-6 for $1) were attached with a safety pin taped to the back.  We flanked each side with balloon bouquets and added the gorgeous DIY coordinating “congrats” banner from the Anders Ruff Modern Graduation Collection to tie the main dessert table together from top to bottom.

Graduation refreshment tables

We carried the printables throughout our dessert & beverage tables by accenting homemade cookies & bars with little party flags and dessert toppers attached to toothpicks.  It’s such a simple way to add a little glitz.  Details count!
