<a class='isly-pinterest-permalink' style='display: none !important;' href='https://andersruff.com/custom-printable-parties/diy/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms/' data-description='Anders Ruff Custom Designs, LLC: Ruff Draft:  DIY Yarn Poms'></a><a class='isly-pinterest-permalink' style='display: none !important;' href='https://andersruff.com/custom-printable-parties/diy/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms/' data-description='Anders Ruff Custom Designs, LLC: Ruff Draft:  DIY Yarn Poms'></a>{"id":10936,"date":"2012-05-03T02:59:37","date_gmt":"2012-05-03T02:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/?p=10936"},"modified":"2012-06-17T00:25:59","modified_gmt":"2012-06-17T00:25:59","slug":"ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/diy\/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruff Draft:  DIY Yarn Poms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are you crazy about yarn poms???\u00a0 Want to know how to make them???<\/p>\n<p>Today, we are going to show you how to make yarn poms &#8211; in various sizes!<\/p>\n<p>We found a great DIY tutorial from <a href=\"http:\/\/prudentbaby.com\/2011\/01\/baby-kid\/how-to-make-a-yarn-pom-pom-2\/\">Prudent Baby<\/a>, and knew we had to make some for our latest <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/shop.andersruff.com\/gender-neutral-baby-shower-printables?filter_name=monogram\">Monogram Baby Shower Collection<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>We used yarn poms to accent drink bottles&#8230; made a pom pom banner (stay tuned for more photos on this), and even added them to our simple white cake!<\/p>\n<p>Since we were working with a specific color scheme, we decided to make all of them ourselves to ensure correct colors!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/diy\/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms\/attachment\/cake1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10942\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10942\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/cake1-640x683.jpg\" alt=\"cake(1)\" width=\"640\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Supplies needed:<\/p>\n<p>Yarn in various colors<\/p>\n<p>Scissors<\/p>\n<p>Cardboard scraps<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Directions:<\/p>\n<p>First you will need to create your templates from cardboard scraps &#8211; old boxes will work.<\/p>\n<p>We created 5 sizes -(TWO each)<\/p>\n<p>1. (2) 4 3\/4&#8243; outside circle with 1 1\/2&#8243; inside cut-out circle<\/p>\n<p>2. (2) 3 1\/2&#8243; outside circle with 1&#8243; inside cut-out circle<\/p>\n<p>3. (2) 3&#8243; outside circle with 7\/8&#8243; inside cut-out circle<\/p>\n<p>4. (2) 2 1\/4&#8243; outside circle with 1\/2&#8243; inside cut-out circle<\/p>\n<p>5. (2) 1.5&#8243; outside circle with 3\/8&#8243; inside cut-out circle<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; You can use any circles around the house (like bottoms of glass ware, coins, etc) to create your circles, if you don&#8217;t want to measure them&#8230; the circle sizes do not have to be as we stated above &#8211; these are just the sizes we created.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once your templates are made, cut a very long piece of yarn &#8211; I start with about 13 feet (no joke)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/diy\/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms\/attachment\/blog-photos-001-01-9\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10937\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10937\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-01-640x455.jpg\" alt=\"creating template\" width=\"640\" height=\"455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-01-640x455.jpg 640w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-01-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-01-768x546.jpg 768w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-01-790x562.jpg 790w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-01-120x85.jpg 120w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-01.jpg 1350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fold the long piece of yarn in half<\/p>\n<p>Loop it through TWO pieces of cardboard<\/p>\n<p>Once you have looped it to the circle, start wrapping the yarn through the hole, and wrap around circles, multiple times<\/p>\n<p>I typically run out of yarn, and have to loop back in another really long strand.\u00a0 Once you make one, you can gauge it a little better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/diy\/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms\/attachment\/blog-photos-001-02-7\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10938\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10938\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-02-640x552.jpg\" alt=\"wrapping around cardboard\" width=\"640\" height=\"552\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wrap yarn until you have filled up the cardboard circles<\/p>\n<p>Next, take your scissors and cut open the yarn along the edge &#8211; I just wedge my scissors into the two pieces of cardboard and use that as my guide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/diy\/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms\/attachment\/blog-photos-001-03-8\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10939\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10939\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-03-640x242.jpg\" alt=\"cutting yarn\" width=\"640\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once you cut open the circle, then take a separate piece of yarn (6-10 inches will work), and insert it between the cardboard pieces<\/p>\n<p>Pull the separate piece of yarn tight, and knot it in the middle of the cardboard (pulling yarn pieces tight)<\/p>\n<p>Last\u00a0 &#8211; pull cardboard pieces off of the yarn<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/diy\/ruff-draft-diy-yarn-poms\/attachment\/blog-photos-001-04-4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10940\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10940\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/blog-photos.001-04-640x738.jpg\" alt=\"finishing yarn pom\" width=\"640\" height=\"738\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cute, right???\u00a0\u00a0 &#8230; a little time consuming, but the end result is worth it!<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to check out our <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/shop.andersruff.com\/gender-neutral-baby-shower-printables?filter_name=monogram\">Monogram Baby Shower Collection<\/a> &#8211; we are just loving this new collection, and hope you do too!!<\/p>\n<p>We will be revealing the entire party soon &#8211; stay tuned!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are you crazy about yarn poms???\u00a0 Want to know how to make them???
