Hi Anders Ruff<\/a><\/strong> fans!\u00a0 Jen Carver, of Banner Events<\/a><\/strong> here!\u00a0 I’m so thrilled to be guest posting a ‘Ruff Draft<\/a>‘.\u00a0\u00a0I\u00a0am sharing with you a simple tutorial for making your own cookie jar party favors as seen here<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in my recent ‘Vintage Milk & Cookies’ party.

I think I can safely say that creative & fun party favors are a ‘must’ at any party.\u00a0 I am always trying to think of something unique and memorable that I can send home with my guests as an extension of the party theme.\u00a0 After all, I want guests to be thinking of my event long<\/em> after the party is over.\u00a0 Finding something premade that coordinates with your theme and\/or colors is not always an option.\u00a0 Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands.\u00a0 I am discovering that DIY party favors are fun and can even be economical.<\/p>\n

You may remember the adorable gumball machines<\/a><\/strong> Adria and Maureen made for their dessert table styled for Universal Studio’s Hop DVD release at Target\u00a0last year.\u00a0 The basic concept for the cookie jar favors is similar.<\/p>\n

Here is what you need to recreate the cookie jar favors:
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

$\"\"$ <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n
Glass bowl<\/strong><\/a> (I found the small favor sized bowls at the Dollar Tree for $1 each.\u00a0 For the larger dessert bar size, a fish bowl would work well.)<\/li>\n
Terra cotta base<\/strong><\/a> to use as the cookie jar lid (get the appropriate size to fit the top of your glass bowl)– I purchased mine at Michaels for less than a $1 a piece + used 40-50% off coupons on each one<\/li>\n
Wooden ball<\/strong><\/a> (flat bottomed)– (I purchased mine at JoAnns with a coupon in an economy pack.)<\/li>\n
Vinyl lettering<\/strong> spelling out ‘Cookies’– Amy of A&E Design Works<\/a><\/strong> recreated the adorable text from the Vintage Milk & Cookies package to coordinate perfectly.<\/li>\n
Spray paint<\/a><\/strong> (choose a color to coordinate with your event).\u00a0 *Note:\u00a0 I tried brushing on acrylic paint and strongly advise against it.\u00a0 Spray paint is best for a quick, even coat.<\/li>\n
Permanent glue<\/strong><\/a> (I used a glue gun)<\/li>\n
Mini cookies\u00a0 <\/strong>(We picked up Famous Amos<\/em> brand at the Dollar Tree.\u00a0 4 pkgs\/$1)\u00a0 Mini Chips Ahoy<\/em> also work well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Before starting, be sure to remove any labels\/price tags and thoroughly clean all items with hot, soapy water.\u00a0 Dry completely.<\/p>\n
1.\u00a0 Spray paint the terra cotta base and wooden ball.\u00a0 It will take a few coats.\u00a0 (Note:\u00a0 Do not spray paint what will be the inside of the cookie jar lid.)<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0 Once the painted pieces are dry, glue the wooden ball to the center top of the terra cotta lid using the glue gun.<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0 Carefully rub the vinyl<\/a><\/strong> with your finger (or a wooden craft stick) and peel vinyl off of it’s sticker backing.<\/p>\n
4. Eyeball (or measure) a good ‘center’ location for your vinyl lettering on the glass jar.\u00a0 Carefully begin\u00a0transferring it to the glass bowl.\u00a0 (Vinyl is very forgiving, so if it needs fixing, slowly peel it up and adjust.<\/p>\n
5.\u00a0 Fill with your favorite mini cookies! Replace the lid, and voil\u00e0, a custom cookie jar favor!<\/p>\n
