Today’s\u00a0RUFF DRAFT<\/strong><\/em> is inspired by\u00a0Maureen’s\u00a0favorite Polyhedrons, seen in our “I heart Valentine’s Day” <\/a> photoshoots and “Jeffrey’s Modern Lego Inspired Birthday\u00a0Party”<\/a> photoshoots.\u00a0 We \u00a0have had several questions about these fun accent pieces, so we wanted to share with you this\u00a0easy DIY project.\u00a0 Maureen\u00a0asked me to\u00a0demonstrate the tutorial….. and I of\u00a0course, wanted to give them a little Ruff Flair<\/em> .<\/p>\n

We orginally found a fabulous paper polyhedron tutorial from Disney’s Family Fun<\/a> website…. We figured – why not share the love and add our own AR touches!<\/p>\n

\"Supplies<\/a>
Supplies Needed<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Supplies Needed:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 20 small colored paper plates<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Stapler<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Scissors<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Crepe Paper<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Regular Clear Tape, and Double-Sided Tape<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 1 1\/4″ circular Craft Punch<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Pattern Paper –\u00a0(download your 3 FREE Patterned Papers at the bottom of this post) or use your own<\/p>\n

Polyhedron:<\/p>\n

1. Fold each plate into thirds, creating a triangle shape<\/p>\n

2. Staple two plates together, (in 3 places) along two folded triangle edges<\/div>\n
\n

3. Connect 5 plates total to create the top portion of the Polyhedron.\u00a0 Then make a second version (with 5 more plates for bottom of Polyhedron)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

4. Next, staple 10 plates together to make a chain<\/p>\n

5. Connect both ends of chain to make middle section of Polyhedron<\/p>\n

6. Staple top of Polyhedron to middle section, then staple bottom portion to middle section<\/p>\n

Should look like this when completed (see below)<\/p>\n

So simple, and yet makes such a great impact. (especially when you hang three side-by-side)<\/div>\n
Now, for those who want to add a litte Ruff Flair<\/em>, here comes the easy (but somewhat time consuming) part… I spent an hour total but, I was also taking photos at the same time \ud83d\ude42<\/div>\n
Fan Ruffles:<\/div>\n
1. First cut (12) 18″ long strands of crepe paper<\/div>\n
2. Fan-fold each strand, 3\/8″-1\/2″<\/div>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0Open Fan-Fold, and tape both ends together, creating a loop<\/div>\n

4.\u00a0 Take loop and push in Fan-Folds towards the center to create circular Fan.<\/div>\n

5.\u00a0 Stick a piece of clear tape in center to keep edges together.\u00a0 (I tape both front and back sides to secure edges)<\/div>\n
6.\u00a0 Finish all 12 Fan Ruffles.<\/div>\n

7. Use double-sided tape and adhere each Fan Ruffle to all 12 corners of Polyhedron<\/p>\n

8. Next use your 1 1\/4″ cicular craft punch, and cut out 12 circles<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 Tape each circle button to center of each Fan Ruffle (rolling clear tape to make “double-sided tape” works better for this part instead of actual double-sided tape).<\/p>\n

10.\u00a0 Tape all Circle Buttons onto the Fan Ruffles.<\/p>\n

11. Punch a small hole at top, and run clear monofilament string (fishing line) through, and you are all done!<\/p>\n

It doesn’t get much cuter than this!!!<\/p>\n

Tips:<\/p>\n

We like to find inexpensive colored plates at dollar stores…<\/p>\n

You can use party logos and tape to the centers as well….<\/p>\n

You can also use the Fan Ruffle, with a party logo in the center, as a cupcake topper or other embellishments.<\/p>\n

Just so you know… my 9-year old daughter, Brynne,\u00a0stole this from me as soon as I was finished, and hung it to her bedroom chandelier!\u00a0 (So apparently, these polyhedrons can also be used as bedroom decor) \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
