SO Many of our <a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/partyfolio\/\" target=\"_blank\">dessert tables<\/a> have backdrops that help create a focal point for your table.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After&nbsp;<strong><em>&#8220;How do you plan a party?&#8221;<\/em>, <\/strong>the next most frequently asked question I get is, <strong><em>&#8220;How did you make your party backdrop?&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong> Today, I&#8217;m going to let you in on a little secret.&nbsp; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><em>Anyone can do it!<\/em><\/strong><\/span> (But <em>shhh!&nbsp;<\/em> Don&#8217;t tell my husband.&nbsp; He likes everyone to believe that only <em>he<\/em> can build such party-transforming masterpieces.) We chose Home Depot.&nbsp; Pick up the following materials (approx. $20+\/-):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3\/4&#8243;x10&#8242; Sch. 40 PVC <strong>Pipe<\/strong> &#8211; 4 (at least)<\/li>\n<li>3\/4&#8243; Sch. 40 PVC <strong>Elbow<\/strong> &#8211; 2<\/li>\n<li>3\/4&#8243; Sch. 40 PVC <strong>T-Connector<\/strong> &#8211; 2<\/li>\n<li>3\/4&#8243; Sch. 40 PVC <strong>Cap<\/strong>&nbsp; &#8211; 8<\/li>\n<li>3\/4&#8243; Sch. 40 PVC <strong>Cross Connector<\/strong>&nbsp; &#8211; 2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Additional tools needed:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Either a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=pvc%20pipe%20cutter&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=andruf-20&amp;linkId=SWBVXREO5YCQNYQU\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>PVC pipe cutter<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=miter%20saw&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=andruf-20&amp;linkId=FRWK5CEP6RU2SLB5\" target=\"_blank\">mitre saw <\/a>or hacksaw (Note: most home improvement stores will also cut your pipe to size for free.)<\/p>\n<p>(<strong>STEP 2:<\/strong>&nbsp; Using a PVC pipe cutter, mitre saw&nbsp;or hacksaw, take your 3\/4&#8243; x 10&#8242; PVC <strong>pipe<\/strong> and cut 8-&nbsp; 1&nbsp;foot pieces.&nbsp; Place a <strong>cap <\/strong>on one end of each.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/uncategorized\/diy-tutorial-building-a-dessert-table-backdrop\/attachment\/015-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4723\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4723\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-2-640x322.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"322\" width=\"640\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 3:&nbsp;<\/strong> Next, take your remaining 3\/4&#8243;&nbsp; pipe and cut 2 pieces of pipe, approx. 2 inches in&nbsp;length, and firmly stick them into one hole on each of the <strong>cross connectors<\/strong> (they look like a + sign and have 4 holes for connecting purposes).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/uncategorized\/diy-tutorial-building-a-dessert-table-backdrop\/attachment\/009-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4702\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4702\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/009-1-640x165.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"165\" width=\"640\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 4:&nbsp;<\/strong> Stick the <strong>T-connectors<\/strong> on the 2&#8243; pieces of <strong>pipe<\/strong>, and stick one of your 1 foot cut <strong>pipe<\/strong> sections into the other end of the <strong>T-connector<\/strong> (the top of the T will be for the vertical sides of the actual background frame).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/uncategorized\/diy-tutorial-building-a-dessert-table-backdrop\/attachment\/10-collage\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4715\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4715\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/10-collage-640x143.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"143\" width=\"640\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 5:&nbsp;<\/strong> Stick your other 1&nbsp;ft. <strong>pipe<\/strong> sections into the other open holes on the <strong>cross connectors<\/strong>, so you have two large &#8220;+&#8217;s,&#8221; with a <strong>T-connector<\/strong> on the same side of each.&nbsp; You should have 2 bases for your stand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/uncategorized\/diy-tutorial-building-a-dessert-table-backdrop\/attachment\/015-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4722\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4722\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-1-640x126.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"126\" width=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-1-640x126.jpg 640w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-1-300x59.jpg 300w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-1-768x152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-1-790x156.jpg 790w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-1-431x85.jpg 431w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/015-1.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><em><strong>Now that the base supports are finished, we will work on building the frame.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 6:<\/strong>&nbsp; Cut two of the other unused sections of 3\/4&#8243; <strong>pipe<\/strong> pieces to whatever size you&#8217;d like (these will determine the height of your backdrop stand). Make sure the height is low enough to not hit the ceiling if you&#8217;ll be using the stand indoors, but high enough so the backdrop will provide an adequate background for your dessert or buffet table.&nbsp; (*I cut my pieces to 7 feet.&nbsp; You can always adjust the heighth of your backdrop by using shorter or taller pieces of pipe, based on your needs.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 7:<\/strong>&nbsp; Next you will be cutting your top &#8216;crossbar&#8217;.&nbsp; The length of your &#8216;crossbar&#8217; (the top piece of PVC <strong>pipe<\/strong>) depends on how wide&nbsp;you want your backdrop to be.&nbsp; Since I wanted it to be as wide as the dessert table I most commonly use, I had my crossbar cut to 6 ft.&nbsp;&nbsp; *The crossbar can easily be traded out for a wider or narrower piece of PVC pipe should you need to adjust the width of your background.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 8:&nbsp;<\/strong> Now, take the two side support <strong>pipes<\/strong> you cut in STEP 6 and stick a 90\u00b0 <strong>elbow<\/strong> on one end of each one, then stick the crossbar <strong>pipe<\/strong> into the two <strong>elbows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/uncategorized\/diy-tutorial-building-a-dessert-table-backdrop\/attachment\/elbow\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4751\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4751\" src=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/elbow-640x258.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"258\" width=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/elbow-640x258.jpg 640w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/elbow-300x121.jpg 300w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/elbow-768x310.jpg 768w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/elbow-790x319.jpg 790w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/elbow-211x85.jpg 211w, https:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/elbow.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 9:<\/strong>&nbsp; Add a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=table%20cloth&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=andruf-20&amp;linkId=64BO5RCL3C6D54BS\" target=\"_blank\">tablecloth<\/a>, sheet, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=fabric%20polka%20dot&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=andruf-20&amp;linkId=4DGPCNZJPBDHDB4Y\" target=\"_blank\">fabric<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=butcher%20paper&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=andruf-20&amp;linkId=KWFMGQFK7BUPANZI\" target=\"_blank\">butcher paper<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=wrapping%20paper&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=andruf-20&amp;linkId=ZF6LVDPHNC5MBF6O\" target=\"_blank\">wrapping paper<\/a>, etc&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In the featured picture, I used a striped flannel backed vinyl tablecloth, purchased from Target for $5.&nbsp; Installation was easy!<\/p>\n<p>1- I made sure the tablecloth was as wrinkle free as possible.&nbsp; (I steamed it.)&nbsp; *Be sure you follow instructions for the kind of fabric\/material you are using to avoid burning it!<\/p>\n<p>2- I centered the tablecloth&nbsp;on the top of&nbsp;the crossbar so that my overhang on each end was approximately equal, then rolled the top over the crossbar, ever-so-slightly and secured it with straight pins.<\/p>\n<p>3-&nbsp;&nbsp;Then, one side at a time, I&nbsp;pulled the fabric taut on each side and finished by rolling&nbsp;it around the side supports and secured it with straight pins as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You are now ready to decorate your backdrop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many different party supplies can be added to your backdrop for added interest and pizzazz.&nbsp; Consider adding a printable banner and graphics from one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shop.andersruff.com\" target=\"_blank\">Anders Ruff&#8217;s&nbsp;printable packages<\/a> to easily tie in your theme.&nbsp; Coordinating images on things like cupcakes &amp; party favor bags help make the background an extension of your tablecloth &amp; tabletop decor.&nbsp; Party poms, fans, parasols, balloons, bunting and streamers are all fun additions too.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a&nbsp;just a couple&nbsp;of&nbsp;examples of how your new <a href=\"http:\/\/andersruff.com\/custom-printable-parties\/partyfolio\/\" target=\"_blank\">backdrop stand <\/a>can be used with patterned butcher paper (the clouds)&nbsp;or fabric.&nbsp;
