This week, here in Fort Mill, is BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK.\u00a0 We wanted to show you how to make the Perfect (Start of the Year) Teacher Gift<\/em> – something everyone can do, cost efficient, and Teachers will LOVE.<\/div>\n
I\u00a0 asked my mom & step dad last week (who are both Teachers) to see what would be the most useful Teacher Gift a student could bring.<\/div>\n
Both my mom and step dad said that they are in constant need of pencils, labeled with their name on them.\u00a0 (Dry erase markers being the second most needed item)<\/div>\n
My mom told me that most teachers provide a pencil when a student forgets or loses his\/hers.\u00a0 She then preceded to tell me that, while almost all teachers lend pencils…. the students fail to return them.<\/div>\n
My mom said that it\u00a0has gotten\u00a0so bad (in some higher level grades), that she makes students give her collateral for the pencil (a shoe, lunch money, etc) so that they will indeed return the pencil.<\/div>\n
Here is how you make the Perfect Teacher Gift\u00a0 (if anyone is a Teacher reading this blog, \u00a0make them for\u00a0your own classroom\u00a0or give to your other Teacher friends).<\/div>\n

Supplies Needed:<\/p>\n
1.\u00a0\u00a0Teacher Label\u00a0Paper –\u00a0(download your\u00a02 FREE\u00a0Label Papers at the bottom of this post) or use your own<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0 Ruler<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0 Scissors\/paper trimmer<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0 A Pack of Pencils<\/p>\n
4.\u00a0 Double-Sided Tape<\/p>\n
5.\u00a0 Recycled Tomatoes\/Beans Cans (or larger size cans)<\/p>\n
Container:<\/p>\n
We LOVE to recycle – pull out your old tomato or bean cans for this fun project!<\/p>\n
$\"Measure$ <\/a>
Measure Can and Label Paper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
1.\u00a0 First, peel labels off of recycled Tomato or Bean size cans.\u00a0 (You go up in size, but I wouldn’t go any smaller)<\/p>\n
2. Wash & dry cans<\/p>\n
3. Measure can – I like to measure inside the “lips”, where the old labels were.<\/p>\n
4. Print your Can Label page from free printable (we made it a full 8.5 x 11″, so you can trim to any can size, also we print on photopaper so it has a nice professional look)<\/p>\n
5.\u00a0 Measure your Can Label, and trim off excess.<\/p>\n

6. Next use your double-sided tape and put it on various spots along metal can.<\/p>\n
7. Adhere your Can Label paper.<\/p>\n
8. Use double-sided tape along outer edge of Can Label paper<\/p>\n
9. Seal shut<\/p>\n

Pencils:<\/p>\n
1. Print and cut the TEACHER labels, from your free printable\u00a0 (don’t worry how close you are on cutting along the lines… these are so tiny, that once they are stuck on, you really can’t see the lines) – we use 8.5 x 11 label paper (it is a full sticker paper, found at our favorite onlinelabels.com <\/a>or your local office store).<\/p>\n

2. Peel Label backing and wrap around metal part of pencil (this is the most time-consuming part – have your\u00a0kids do it) \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
3. Tie ribbon around pencils<\/p>\n

4. Add shred, and you are finished!<\/p>\n
Extra Credit: <\/em><\/strong>If you really want to please your child’s Teacher, sharpen the pencils as well or give them a sheet of “TEACHER” labels so they can stick on any other items in the classroom! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
You can also use these\u00a0“PLEASE RETURN ME”\u00a0cans for: dry erase markers, rulers, erasers…. anything you think your teacher would lend out to students.<\/p>\n
