A Cupcake Themed 1st Birthday party with Paisley and Polka Dots

cupcake party ideas

First birthday parties are SO special and I always love to see the themes that parents pick for their little ones’ first birthday.  I loved my little Pierson’s first bee day (back in the days before I knew I wanted to get into graphic design or party styling!) and I also love the theme that Marcie worked on for her client’s daughter’s first birthday party!  A Cupcake themed 1st birthday party just seems like the sweetest party ideas – and pair it up with paisley graphics and polka dots…. Perfection! Who doesn’t love cupcake themed kid parties!?

We just introduced our Paisley Cupcake Party invitation and collection theme in the shop.  Marcie’s client sent out this invitation to invite the guests to their sweetie’s party.  Read on for the adorable and sweet details!

PARTY DETAILS (told by Marcie)
My client loved paisley print (ie Vera Bradley) and wanted lots of pink and tulle!
So I came up with incorporating that into a cupcake theme. “Our Lil Cupcake is Turning ONE!” I worked with the great team of Anders Ruff to create the Paisley Cupcake Printables. Maureen nailed it!
Chloe’s mom made the cake and cupcakes herself, to keep the party in budget.
We turned a dark church basement into a beautiful fun sea of pink and green with some pops of yellow… lil girl sweetness.
I  incorporated the tulle by making a tulle skirt for the table. This is done by tying pieces of tulle to a stretchy type ruffled ribbon. I find this ribbon helps hold it around the table but any ribbon would work.
If you are on a budget, simple desserts can be made to look extra special when presented in small bites, with a lil extra “something” on top or in cute and pretty containers.
The BIG letters spelling O-N-E are wooden cut outs which I covered in the beautiful paper from the printables collection. I put them on top of boxes I wrapped in coordinating wrapping paper to add some height.  Otherwise, they would have been lost behind the desserts.
