Camp Kellen is undoubtedly one of the cutest camps I have ever seen and what an incredibly fun theme for a first birthday party! Fishing, fire, s’mores, tents, and lots and lots of yummy treats. Amy Bieri grew up with camping being a huge part of her life and she wants it to be that to her two boys as well. So, as any clever and creative Mom would do, she combined a love of the present (her youngest son Kellen) with a love of her past (camping) and celebrated Kellen’s first birthday Camp Kellen style!
Here’s all the details about Camp Kellen from Amy herself:
Camping was a huge part of my life growing up and I want to make it a big part of my boys’ lives as well. With camping on the mind with summer coming up, I thought what a cute first birthday theme for my littlest man. Especially after seeing your truly perfect camping themed printables. I had so much fun thinking of ways to decorate for “Camp Kellen”. We threw the party in our backyard in San Diego. It was such a fun afternoon! Some highlights of the party are as follows…
Trail Mix Bar: I created a station where guests could fill their own Mason Jars with various camping themed treats to make their own trail mix. There were 8 different selections. 1.”Bug Bites”: Graham cracker shaped bugs 2. “Matchsticks”: I hand dipped pretzel sticks into red colored chocolate to make pretzels look like matches. 3. “Fishing Bait”: Gummy Worms 4. “Grizzly Bears”: Gummy Bears 5. “Squirrel Food”: Assorted nut mix 6. “Rainbow Trout” : Colored gold fish crackers 7. “Acorns” : I used melted chocolate and attached mini vanilla wafers to chocolate kisses to create yummy cookies that resembled acorns. 8. “S’mores Mix”: Mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and mini graham crackers mixed together.
Dessert Station: There were several choices for dessert including a chocolate, chocolate chip cake from Nothing Bundt Cake, S’mores flavored cupcakes and a smash cake for Kellen from Hey There, Cupcake. And homemade “Mud Pies” which included chocolate pudding, smashed oreos and gummy worms!
Camping Decor: My husband and I built our homemade tents out of wood and burlap. I printed off authentic looking camping signs and posted them all over the yard including one for our fishing game as well as one in front of our giant playstructure in the backyard. My dad had recently just chopped down a dead tree at his house and brought us the logs for around the campfire and for the firepit as well as all the wood pieces on the tables. It was so fun working as a family to celebrate Kellen.
