Maureen’s 34th! Surprise Birthday Party!

surprise birthday party

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world! So, you all know I moved from Charlotte to Milwaukee almost a year ago.  I left some family, amazing friends, my partner in crime (Adria Ruff of course), and so many wonderful memories of living in the south to move up here.  It was a hard several months for me, but within no time at all, I met the most fabulous group of friends. They have been so warm, welcoming, loving, generous and thoughtful.

The other night, my great friends Amy and Shannon were going to take me out for an easy going birthday drink and dinner.  Well, they pulled a fast one on me!  Amy brought me to the restaurant where Shannon was supposed to be. We were running really early, so Amy asked if I wanted to check out this boutique right next to the restaurant because she needed to pick up something.  Of course I was game. I love finding new fun shops.  I had mentioned to Amy that I love Delafield and feel like the stores are always closed when I come to check them out.

Well, we walk up to the boutique and I said “oh, it looks open but the sign says closed – darn!”  However, the lights were all on and I saw an associate at the desk.  Amy walked right in and out of the blue, 17 friends were there and yelled “SURPRISE!” (3 of my sweet friends aren’t shown in the photo above, darn!)

I never in a million years would have guessed – a surprise birthday party for me!?

I was in complete shock.  Last year, Adria and J had an amazing surprise 33rd birthday and going away party for me in Charlotte. I was totally shocked for that and had an absolute blast celebrating with my friends that I had for 8 years in Charlotte.  Adria had put so much work into it!  So yeah, I had known those SC friends for years.  Now, for my NEW WI friends of less than a year to do something SO thoughtful and SO generous, I just pinched myself.  I felt so spoiled and special and loved.  My friends all know how much I LOVE parties and for them to have one for me… me!? SO freaking excited. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face the entire night.

So, get this… the party was at a local boutique that sells jewelry and accessories (LOVE).  The girls all had me shop around the store and pick out things that I loved and each person bought me a gift from the store. HOW CREATIVE, right? I felt so lucky and so spoiled.

It really isn’t even about the gifts and shopping or the amazing cupcakes (Carmen!) or food that they all put time and effort into making and bringing. Or the thought behind the concept of the party, or the thought behind the lovely cards everyone brought.  It is about the fact that I feel so “at home” here now.  I have come a long way in a year, and I can’t tell you how thankful I am to be situated in a community where the women LOVE to be together.  They LOVE to entertain and get together often. (Thanks to my amazing friend, Shannon, who is the party queen!)

Thanks to all of my new friends, my new friends that came to celebrate, my neighbors and everyone in the community who has made this move an easy transition!
