Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars. It is celebrated by parades, church services, the American flag being hung at half mast, or a period of silence lasting two minutes held at 11 am. It’s a day that all Veterans should wake up feeling just as loved as Moms and Dads do on Mothers Day and Fathers Day. HBelow are some ways that you can show your gratitude to those who have fought to give us the rights to have a life filled with things we are thankful for!
- Post a message on a social network thanking our veterans.
- Display a yellow ribbon on your clothes, car, or around a tree.
- When you see a soldier or veteran eating at a restaurant, discretely tell the waiter/waitress that you’d like to pick up the tab for them.
- Bake some sugar free cookies (or other goodies) and take them to the local VA retirement homes in your area.
- Buy a homeless Veteran a cup of coffee and give them a care kit (we love the list of care kit ideas suggested by Might Girls)
- Ask a Veteran about their time in the military, and really listen to the answer.
- Attend a Veterans Day gathering (search your cities events page to find out about Veterans Day events in your area)
- Bring flowers to a veteran memorial site
- Send a letter to a vet to let them know that you appreciate all they have done and continue to do for us. If you sign up with a place like A Million Thanks, they’ll not only help with suggestions of what to write, but list drop off locations near you. They will mail the letters to Vets who need to hear they have not been forgotten area still appreciated for their time served!
