Ruff Draft: Creating Fall Place Card Holders & Centerpieces for a Rustic Thanksgiving

Creating rustic fall centerpieces and place card holders

Rustic Table Settings with gold accents

Anyone counting down the days until Thanksgiving… because we already are!!!  We came out with a printable EDITABLE rustic place card & menu card collection last week, and we wanted to show you some easy and clever ways to display the cards on your table setting this season.

We are loving all natural elements along with accents of gold – it is neutral & rustic, yet sophisticated all in the same!  To create our rustic theme, all you have to do is send your kids outside to collect the following:  fallen tree branches, pine cones, acorns & sweet gumball pods…. we will show you the rest!  We are creating a few place card holders that you can use throughout your home along with the perfect centerpiece.

Supplies needed:
Thick tree branch
Pine Cones
Acorns
Sweet Gumball Pods
Coping Saw
Vise
Bright Gold Metallic & Satin Champagne Metallic Spray Paint
Ribbon/Twine (we get our twine, from The Twinery)

Log Place Card Holder
Directions:
1.  Find a 1″- 2″ thick tree branch.
2. Using a coping saw (or any other hand saw), cut branch into 1 1/2″ pieces – it is best to hold saw in a metal vise, while cutting it.
3. Slice each log at the top, centered, 1/4″ deep from edge to edge.
4. Tie groisgrain ribbon around log… and then tie cute twine for an extra touch.

Rustic Centerpiece
Directions:
1. Collect assorted pine cones, acorns, sweet gum pods and small twigs from outside.
2. Using the two spray paint colors, spray findings (and keep some to the side, not painted)
3. Once dry, arrange on platters with a candle – mixing the painted pieces with natural pieces.  Mixing painted outdoor elements with the non-painted ones will warm up the centerpiece and keep that rustic feel.

Menu cards displayed in fresh cut logs

To display menu cards – you can also show the menu cards in the log place card holders…. or lay them on plates, and add a few gold acorns for accents.

More Place Card Options
– Add a piece of wheat to your folded place card by punching two tiny holes in the top left corner and slide through
– Using a gold painted pine cone, wedge the card in the top of it
– Insert a painted sweet gum ball stem in the corner of the place card for another look

You can mix up your outside elements and display cards multiple ways throughout your table setting!
