THE AMIGOS:

Its a safe bet that when friends com up with the prospect of starting their own tequila company, the drinking of some tequila will be involved.  A fair bit, in fact, consumed late at night – on the rocks or by the shot – until one of the friends stares into the empty glass and has the liquid equivalent of a thunderbolt: what if we made this stuff ourselves?

That is how Casamigos Tequila was born.

Casamigos, which roughly translates to “house of friends” signifies getting away, spending time with friends and good times.

“After trying every tequila out there,” says Gerber, “and never being totally satisfied, we thought it would be fun to make our own.  Our tequila was always intended for personal use to be shared with family and friends.”

“We wanted to drink a tequila that we didn’t have to cover up the taste of with salt or a lime,” says Clooney.

It’s safe to say these men know a thing or two about toasting good times, whether with friends and family at their homes in Mexico, at Clooney’s villa in Italy, or at Café Habana in Malibu.  Seven years ago when Rande and George decided to build their adjacent houses in Mexico they also decided to make their own house tequila, always intended  for their friends and their family.   George and Rande worked on the creation of Casamigos Tequila for many years with a master distiller in Jalisco, Mexico and conducted blind tastings with friends until they got it right.

“We talked about how this was going to be like the bottles you see in old John Wayne movies,” jokes Clooney, “where you slide the bottle down the bar, pull the cork out with your teeth, and pour yourself a shot.”
