This sweet book theme party was sent to us by Courtney Portner and we couldn’t resist sharing it. With a shabby chic feel and lots of warmth added with all the book pages and book decorations it’s the perfect birthday party theme for any age.
Some of my favorite elements are:
– the books on candlesticks that serve as dessert stands
– the multiple way pages from old books were used as decorations
– The various coordinating fabric patterns

Below Courtney gives us the inspiration and details for her daughters Bedtime Stories book themed party.
My daughter’s love of books and desire to have a slumber party inspired her “Bedtime Stories” themed 8th birthday party. Stacks of books sandwiched with candlesticks helped hold the desserts while miniature paperbacks hung above the dining table – which also featured stacked books. Pages from novels (all from recycled library books) created bouquets of flowers, party hats, milk bottle wrappers, cake pop flags and a banner with the party girl’s name.
Guests dined on ceramic plates shaped as open books – each adorned with a personalized bookmark that served as a place card. Bookmarks also decorated the back of each guest’s chair along with a personalized pillowcase. Each place setting also featured a small doll-sized sleeping bag as the placemat and a sleeping mask for each girl to use during the slumber party.
Elements from Tamara Kate’s “Quiet Time” fabric served as inspiration for the creation of many book and slumber party related desserts. Little girls wearing bunny slippers, animals reading or sitting on top of books and colorful mattresses stacked incredibly high were all reflected in adorable cupcake toppers and cookies.
Party guests enjoyed partaking in several crafts including stringing beads on flashlights, decorating book shaped boxes and embellishing felt bookmarks.
