I am so excited to share my son Pierson’s 6th birthday party. This year, he requested a dinosaur theme, and I loved the opportunity to create something unique and non-commercial.Instead of a cartoon-style party, we went with a classic dinosaur dig theme inspired by museums, fossils, and excavation sites. The goal was to create an experience that felt fun, hands-on, and a little more elevated for older kids while still being playful.

We styled the party using natural textures and earthy elements like wood crates, greenery, and pops of orange and green. Wooden dinosaurs placed throughout the party helped tie everything together and became a signature detail that the kids loved.

The dessert table carried the excavation theme with simple but creative details. “Dirt cups” made with pudding and crushed cookies were topped with chocolate dinosaur bones, and other treats were displayed in ways that mimicked sand, fossils, and dig sites. Even simple desserts felt themed with a few creative touches.

For the kids’ table, we kept the look cohesive with natural elements and fun pops of color. Each place setting included a themed lunch box filled with kid-friendly foods, all labeled in a playful way to match the dinosaur theme. It made lunchtime feel like part of the experience.

Activities were a huge highlight of the party. The kids became “dinosaur excavators” and got to dig for fossils using their own excavation kits. This hands-on activity kept them engaged and excited, and it was a perfect fit for the theme.

We also included simple games and creative stations like coloring activities and a dinosaur-themed tic-tac-toe game. These easy additions gave the kids plenty to do and kept the energy flowing throughout the party.

Each guest went home with themed favors, including activity books and small treats, which helped extend the fun even after the party ended.

This dinosaur dig party was such a fun way to celebrate and a great reminder that thoughtful details, interactive activities, and a cohesive theme can make any party feel extra special.

Is the tutorial available for the leaf garland? How did you tie the leaves to the twine? TIA!
Hi! Here is a video tutorial that Maureen and Adria made for the leaf garland: https://andersruff.com/custom-printable-parties/crafts/leaf-garland/ (I sent you an email as well!)
Hi I was wondering if you have a picture of your address labels ?
Hi Krisilyn! They are an address wrap. I’d be happy to show you – can you email us at sales@andersruff.com? Thanks!
Hey I love the topiary’s you used. What size were they and where did you get the boxes they are in?
You can find a great selection on Amazon. The topiary balls on the table are about 4″ and and can be found here and here. For the pots you can just wrap boxes in brown kraft paper and then set the boxwood pot inside the box.
Thanks a lot for sharing detailed info. You should film a Youtube tutorial!
Can you also share the link for the cake recipe too?
In your pictures you have cute cups filled with “dinosaur eggs” – is that a dessert?
