Today is day 4 of our Swan Princess Party in collaboration with Sony’s new movie – The Swan Princess, A Royal Family Tale on DVD and Blu-ray!  (2.25.14!)  We just loved styling this party and wanted to show you one of the crafts we created as party decor.  We may have noticed the tissue & glitter tulle flower poms throughout the shoot – from a variety of hanging flower poms above the dessert table (mixed in with pink honeycomb balls from Shop Sweet Lulu), to actual tissue flowers with paper straw stems in vases (paper straws from Smashcake & Co.).  These festive flowers are simple to make, cost effective and a great way to present pops of color!

Tissue & Glitter Tulle Flower Poms
Supplies needed:
Roll of 6″ wide glitter tulle (sold at your local craft stores)
Various shades of tissue paper
Stapler
Clear string

Directions:
1. Gather supplies
2. Cut tissue and glitter tulle into squares from 3.5″ – 6″ (we are showing 5″ squares below).  Each pom will need approximately 16 square pieces. You can add more or less depending on how full you want them.
3. Layer 16 pieces of your colors evenly into a pile.
4. Stack together neatly.

Creating flower poms

5. Fold stack in half to start cutting flower shape. (without cutting fold line)
6. Create 3 0r 4 “petals” – each flower can be cut differently.
7. In our sample we show 3 “petals” cut when folded, 6 total.
8. Unfold petals and separate.

9. Rotate petals as you stack them and then staple in the center.
10. Fold up each petal cluster by pinching and twisting at the bottom – pinch up each layer until the pom is full.
11. Tie a piece of clear string through the middle to hang.
12. Mix with other tissue decor such as honeycomb balls for a dramatic effect.

Finishing touches to assembling flower poms

We just love how whimsical the hanging flowers feel, but still have that magical princess look when the sparkle catches the light.

We also created tissue flowers attached to paper straw stems.  We made some with glitter tulle and some in other bold colors.  If you want to see how we created these eye-catching flowers, click here.
